Extrait de Parfum vs. Eau de Parfum: The Battle of Fragrance Intensity
Part I
Do you love fragrance? Do you read reviews and box-hunt for that elusive ‘one’ – that scent that fits your mood and vibe? If so, you’ve probably come across terms such as ‘extrait’,parfum’. But did you know that, technically speaking, these grades are essentially synonyms? Perfect: because we’re here to debunk the hierarchy of fragrance, and take you through the scales of scent strengths.
Extrait de Parfum vs. Eau de Parfum: What’s the Difference?
There are variety of fragrances available in the market. Extrait de Parfum and Eau de Parfum are amongst the trendy fragrances among teens. Both these fragrances have great potential to smell great but there are somethings in these that might help you in making your decision.
Extrait de Parfum (extratrengthen): a very concentrated, long-lasting fragrance, usually including between 15 to 40 per cent fragrance oils. Eau de Parfum (eaudeparfum): a less concentrated, but long-lasting fragrance, usually including around 15 to 20 per cent fragrance oils. Sometimes it’s referred to as EdP.
One of the main differences between them seems to be price. Extrait de Parfum is usually more luxurious and more expensive than Eau de Parfum due to the higher concentration of fragrance oils. However, you might only need to use less Eau de Parfum for it to be just as good so, in the long run, maybe Extrait de Parfum can be a better, more cost-efficient deal.
Understanding Extrait de Parfum
Extract of Perfume. or pure perfume as it is known in perfumery terms (hint, I am not joking here!) is the strongest, but most luxurious perfume. It usually contains between 20-30 per cent of perfume oil, but then this is also the most expensive version of all the fragrance options.
Applied sparingly, usually in a dab on pulse points, extrait de Parfum can persist for 24 hours or longer and is perfect for special occasions and eveningwear – a more serious, longer-lasting alcoholic option than either Eau de Cologne or Eau de Parfum. It’s also a preferable choice for anyone who wants to smell strong.
That’s different from Eau de Parfum, which is made with a lower amount of perfume oil, and a greater ratio (and tolerance so far) of alcohol. You feel its power, and its effects are more spread out in time. As a general rule, Extrait de Parfum is more expensive, contains more perfume oil and less alcohol than Eau de Parfum, and is more sophisticated and intricate in perfume development, and noteworthy for its depth and richness: it’s less heady, so it’s easier on the nose (but perhaps causes more long-term skin irritation or allergies due to the higher ratio of oil to alcohol).
In conclusion, Extrait de Parfum is quite a luxury in the world of fragrances, with a very powerful aroma concentration and long lasting effect. Choice to intensive perfume lovers for special occasions. Use it has a wardrobe fragrance only if you have a very limited choice of scents. Yet for everyday use, there is probably better for a smaller purse.
Understanding Eau de Parfum
Eau de Parfum (EDP) contains between 15% to 20% perfume oils so it is higher in concentration than Eau de Toilette (EDT) but lower than Extrait de Parfum. The scent of EDP thus lasts longer than EDT, which averages between 5% to 15% perfume oils.
EDP is a crowd favourite especially for a perfume that lasts for several hours but doesn’t remain for more than a few. Similarly to EDP, EDT appeals to those who love a fragrance that stays fresh throughout the day. Rather, EDT is more of a day-time fragrance.
Taking into account the perfume notes of the EDP helps in choosing the perfect fragrance. These fragrances can be grouped into numerous categories, ranging from floral, fruity, or woody to spicy. If possible, it is advisable to try the fragrance by applying it to the skin in order to check whether it corresponds with the body chemistry of the person and also if the flavour matches his/her personal taste.
In conclusion it is a fragrance that lasts long, it’s not too powerful but best for people who works in an office. EDP is a safe bet and highly advised.
